A sampling of our dahlia varieties.
With an honest review of growth characteristics in our semi-arid growing environment.
Northwind Candy Corn
Large 8-10″ | Semi Cactus | Bicolor
A rare seedling from Clearview Edie x Clearview Jonas or Lily (both pollen mixed in)
Unique color, looks like a firework exploding
Very precise form, can be slower to rebloom mid-summer, similar to its parent
Likely has show potential

Northwind (needs a name!)
Small 4-6″ | Formal Decorative
Stark raspberry picotee, darker reverse
Lots of sparkle on the petals (or dahlia glitter, pixie dust or whatever we’re calling it)
We haven’t quite been able to grow it to show quality, but it makes for a great cut flower
For us, base colors tend to be lighter (more white) mid-summer; a bit darker pink on early and later blooms
Good stems, highly spider mite resistant, people really like it

Northwind Karissa
Small 4-6″ | Informal Decorative (maybe)
Unique lavender color with dark purple picotee and reverse
Long stems, glitter on petals
Some blooms can be clock faced, the color makes it worth growing
Highly spider mite resistant
Named after a friend and local florist who uses our dahlias in arrangements; she liked this one a lot

Other seedlings we’re growing on.
Northwind 23-45
Medium 6-8″ | Incurved Cactus | Dark Red
Amazing dark red swirly blooms
Spider mite resistant
Has a short neck on the primary blooms, secondary stems are fine

Northwind 23-22
Small 4-6″ | Straight Cactus | Orange
Spider mites love this one too; the precise cactus form keeps us growing it

Northwind 25-01
Small 4-6″ | Formal Decorative | Orange
Light orange with dark orange pencil lines on petals

Northwind 25-06
Small 4-6″ | Formal Decorative
Pale orange/bronze with magenta reverse
More bronze mid-summer in full sun, more orange in the fall
Spider mite resistant, strong grower

A few of the newest seedlings flagged for another year.
Northwind 26-17
Small 4-6″ | Formal Decorative
Non-fading, orange with bright red picotee and reverse
Light dusting of red on petals
Dark stems, highly spider mite resistant
